written–not–written
Augustin Maurs (/)

Augustin Maurs’ musical work combines written music, performance and different processes of interpretation. Often re-contextualising existing elements, (notation, vocabulary, customs, etc.), his work questions the very conditions of music making, calling on the body and memory to explore what is written, coded, ‘given’, and how we want to perform it, or not.

Augustin Maurs studied in Paris CRR, at the Detmold Musikhochschule and at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin. He has received scholarships from a.o. the Darmstadt International Music Institute and Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt). His work has been presented internationally, in recent years at the Steirischer Herbst Festival, the Busan Biennale, the Sound Biennale in Wallis, the Ljubljana Biennale or the Bergen Assembly.
He has also developed a sustained curatorial activity, notably working with artists Saâdane Afif, Annika Larsson, Angela Bulloch or Tino Sehgal. His curated projects and “sonic exhibitions” have been presented at a.o. the Geneva Art Fair, The Teatro Goldoni in Venice or the Berlin Philharmonie.
